Brewers swept out of Detroit, 4-1

Whether it is the Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, or as it was this time, the Detroit Tigers, the Brewers seem to have a problem handling the bottom of the American League Central. Milwaukee dropped the second in a row to Detroit as the Tigers completed a 2-game sweep of the Brew Crew and won 4-1.

The Brewers sent Brandon Woodruff to the mound, and he was pretty good. Woodruff covered 6 innings while striking out 7. By the end of his outing, however, he had given up 3 runs. The Tigers would add one more off Jake Cousins. Those 4 runs were more than enough as the Brewers’ bats suddenly became non-existent in Comerica Park.

Things did look promising early. With two outs in the top of the second, Jace Peterson singled to center and stole second base. Daniel Vogelbach followed up with a walk. Next, Lorenzo Cain punched a double down the right field line. The Brewers were on the board, but that would be all they would get as Tigers’s starter, Matt Manning, and the bullpen shut Milwaukee down.

As I mentioned, the Tigers scored the next 4 runs, and Milwaukee had no answer for the Tigers’ pitching. Now the Brewers hope to get back on track. They return home for a 10-game home stand. First up is a 3-game series with the Chicago Cubs followed by a 4-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals. Their final series at home will be a 3-gamer with the New York Mets.

The Brewers do get the day off tomorrow. When they take on the Cubs on Friday, first pitch will come at 7:10 CT. Adrian Houser will take the mound for the Crew. TBD will be up for the Cubs.
