Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson doesn't believe his Week 2 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs is a referendum on whether he or Patrick Mahomes is the better player.

In fact, he doesn't believe the matchup is about them at all. Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Jackson said this is about the two teams lining up, not any individual player on the field.

Of course, quarterbacks always bear the brunt of the focus on game days, and that's especially true when two of the best in the NFL play each other. Jackson just hasn't had much success in that area.

The Ravens QB is 0-3 against the Chiefs with four touchdowns total in those losses.

Jackson has a career quarterback rating of 102.5, but that number drops to 78.9 against the Chiefs. That's due to him completing 50 of 90 passes for 511 yards combined across three games. Jackson has also averaged 6.32 yards per carry with three fumbles against KC.

Mahomes, meanwhile, has a QB rating of 116.2 against the Ravens and has completed 93 of 132 pass attempts for 1,136 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception.

There's also no question the two quarterbacks will be compared to each other as long as they continue to lead Super Bowl-contending clubs. Especially with Mahomes winning MVP in 2018 and Jackson following his lead with an MVP nod in 2019.

Coming off a wild Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore desperately needs a win to feel good about as it works through a number of season-ending injuries to key players as the season gets underway.

The Chiefs are coming off a season-opening victory against the Cleveland Browns in which Mahomes passed for 337 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another.

It may be two teams meeting on the field in Baltimore on Sunday, but it's hard not to get sidetracked by the talent at quarterback once the game begins—even as Jackson tries to deflect that attention elsewhere.
