Every state has certain areas labeled as safe and other areas marked as dangerous, but those vary as crime rates are constantly changing.

To find some of the safest cities in Michigan, SafeWise reviewed data to determine which areas were the safest for Michiganders.

According to the report, in a State of Safety survey, Michigan residents are slightly less likely to worry about their safety on a day-to-day basis compared to most of the U.S.

"While there was an increase in the daily level of high concern among Michigan residents in 2021, the state's dropping crime rates reflect a nationwide trend of decreasing crime over the past few years. The violent crime rate in Michigan dropped from 4.5 per 1,000 people to 4.4 while property crime declined from 16.5 per 1,000 to 15.9."

The report does say that Michigan's crime rate has increased, and of all 50 states, Michigan has the 13th highest violent crime rate but the 14th lowest property crime rate.

To determine the safest cities in Michigan, SafeWise reviewed the 2019 FBI crime report statistics and population data.

According to the report, here are the top 10 safest cities in Michigan:

  1. Thetford Township
  2. Spring Arbor Township
  3. Grosse Ile Township
  4. Oakland Township
  5. Hamburg Township
