Ashli Babbitt’s widower discourages violence at ‘Justice for J6’ rally on Saturday

Aaron Babbitt, husband of Ashli Babbitt who was killed during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, requested there be no violence at the “Justice for J6” rally scheduled for Saturday in Washington, D.C.

“The last thing I want is violence occurring in my wife’s name. I don’t want it,” Aaron told Fox 5. “More bloodshed at this point is not going to do anything in terms of getting justice for Ashli.”

Ashli Babbit was shot as she tried to breach a door leading to the Speaker’s Lobby as the Capitol Police evacuated members of Congress during the riot in January. She was transported to Washington Hospital Center, where she died from her injuries.

Aaron said he believes his wife was murdered, despite the officer who fatally shot her during the protest, Lt. Michael Byrd, being cleared of wrongdoing by the Capitol Police and the Justice Department.

Capitol Police have taken precautions for Saturday’s rally, reinstalling fences around the Capitol perimeter. The event’s organizer, Michael Braynard, says he expects an attendance of 700 people.

Aaron Babbitt said he does not intend on going to the event.

“I remain in my small little enclave of friends and family and I don’t really — the second you go outside of that circle it’s like you’re just flooded with people that want to talk to you and pump your head full of stuff. That’s not my game. I’ve never been a political person,” he said.

Aaron Babbitt said former President Donald Trump reached out to him after his wife was killed and that they had a great phone conversation talking about his wife. Aaron Babbitt did not come to Washington with his wife in January. He said Ashli Babbitt wanted to hear Trump speak and was a longtime supporter of the former president.

Braynard has requested that attendees not wear pro-Trump attire, explaining that anyone who does so will be flagged as an “infiltrator.”

“We request that anybody attending our events not wear any clothing or have signs supportive of either President Trump or Biden,” Braynard tweeted Tuesday. “Anyone not honoring this request will be assumed to be an infiltrator and we will take your picture, find out who you are, and make you famous.”

The U.S. Capitol Police said on Wednesday that it “asked the Department of Defense for the ability to receive National Guard support should the need arise on September 18.”
