This New Woody Harrelson Flick Is Netflix’s New #1 Movie & It’s Totally Worth the Watch

Kate is already making headlines, and it’s only been on Netflix for a matter of days.

The flick just premiered on the streaming service last week, and it recently claimed the number one spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched films. (It’s currently ranked ahead of Prey, An Unfinished Life, Firedrake: The Silver Dragon, Vivo, School of Rock, Afterlife of the Party and Wind River.)

The movie tells the story of Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), an assassin and expert sniper. Although she’s an orphan, she was raised and trained by her now-mentor, Varrick (Woody Harrelson), who oversees a private team of wetwork specialists. After a close call with a child, Kate agrees to do one more assignment before she retires, which involves targeting a high-ranking yakuza boss. However, the mission goes awry when she meets a charismatic stranger in a bar.

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “Slipped a fatal poison on her final job, a ruthless assassin working in Tokyo has less than 24 hours to find out who ordered the hit and exact revenge.”

Other cast members include Tadanobu Asano (Renji), Jun Kunimura (Kijima), Michiel Huisman (Stephen), Miyavi (Jojima), Kazuya Tanabe (Shinzo), Amelia Crouch (Teen Kate), Ava Caryofyllis (Child Kate), Gemma Brooke Allen (Young Kate) and Miku Martineau (Ani).

Kate was directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (Snow White and the Huntsman 2), while Umair Aleem (Extraction) wrote the screenplay. David Leitch (Atomic Blonde), Kelly McCormick (Bullet Train), Bryan Unkeless (I, Tonya) and Patrick Newall (The Keeping Room) served as producers.

Pleased to meet you, Kate.
