The Capitol Police have requested assistance from the Department of Defense regarding the upcoming rally set for this week where attendees will be supporting those who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6.
The rally, which is being put on by Look Ahead America and will be held on Saturday, has law enforcement agencies working to prevent a repeat of the riot that occurred the day Congress was set to certify President Joe Biden’s electoral victory.

“We have received a request from Capitol Police for some assistance for this weekend’s scheduled protests,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told reporters at Wednesday’s briefing, declining to provide details, though he noted he doesn’t believe the request requires substantial resources.
“My understanding is it is not an exorbitant ask. It’s not of a particularly large size or major capability. I think it’s really more in the form of some manpower support,” he added.
A spokesperson for Capitol Police confirmed to the Washington Examiner that it has spoken with the military and has “multiple agencies assisting,” though the agency “cannot provide specifics as we do not want to give away security sensitive info.” A National Guard representative directed the Washington Examiner to contact Capitol Police when reached for comment.
The Capitol Police board approved the department’s request to bring back temporary fencing around the Capitol building ahead of the rally earlier this week.

Fencing was installed around the Capitol for months following the violent Jan. 6 riot when a mob of former President Donald Trump’s supporters breached the building’s doors as Congress was in the process of certifying the 2020 election for Biden. Portions of the fence were removed in March, but the full blockade was removed in early July.
Hundreds of people were arrested following the attack on the Capitol, and the rally is being put on to support those individuals.
