'This kid is just lighting up European football... he can do ANYTHING': Jude Bellingham scores Dortmund's opener and creates second for Erling Haaland to leave Rio Ferdinand in awe of England youngster

Jude Bellingham scored a stunning strike for Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night as they kickstarted their Champions League campaign. 

The 18-year-old bagged the second European goal of his career as the Bundesliga outfit faced Besiktas away in their first group stage. 

The England international continued his incredible rise with the German side with a stellar performance, and became the youngest Englishman to score away from home in the Champions League. 

A crossfield ball was floated in to wingback Thomas Meunier who swiftly laid it into the former Birmingham City man's path. 

The teenager latched onto the pass, then controlled the ball on his chest before rifling a shot through the legs of goalkeeper Ersin Destanoglu.

The midfielder continued to be instrumental for Dortmund as he played a part in their second goal before the break. 

The Three Lions star picked up the ball from a throw in, sidestepping a defender and squaring it to Erling Haaland to tap in. 

Bellingham's shot was his first goal in the Champions League since he found the net in Dortmund's first leg quarter-final clash against Manchester City last season.

Pundit Rio Ferdinand was full of praise for Bellingham's ability and maturity on the pitch for such a young player.

'This kid is just lighting up European football,' he said on BT Sport. 'He can do everything in the game. 

'He played as a No 6 for England in the youth system, now he’s playing as a No 8, running on and joining the forwards. Nothing he does surprises me at the moment.'

Ferdinand added that Bellingham's talent went beyond just his ability on the ball. 

'When you speak to anybody who has worked with this young kid, they speak about the intelligence, to take on information and implement it immediately on the pitch. That’s difficult to do.

'We can all take information in, but he takes it in and then produces straight away (on the pitch). Intelligence, determination, fantastic young player.'

Fellow pundit Michael Owen hailed Bellingham's experience through his time first at Birmingham and then at Dortmund, saying his decision to avoid the elite English clubs has helped him progress.

'He’s already played over 100 games and he’s 18. That’s not just ability, it’s experience as well,' he said. 

'You get all the experience while all these so-called great players in the big academies are not getting a chance, and by the time they’re 19 still haven’t kicked a ball in earnest.' 

Owen said Bellingham will be a certain England regular by the time of the Qatar 2022 World Cup and Ferdinand agreed, though he said there remain question marks over the Dortmund star's role in Gareth Southgate's side.

'I think he could play as a No 6, a defensive midfielder but the one who’s going to get the ball and transfer it through the team very quickly because he can do that. Or he could be the attacking midfielder. 

'But I believe this kid is ready to start for England. I don’t know where you play him but he gets in the team.'
