Why did The Wendy Williams Show end?

In 2022, it was revealed that The Wendy Williams Show was ending due to continuous health complications which prevented the talk show host from appearing on the show.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the show moved to being virtual until 2021.

However, Williams endured health complications that kept her from pursuing her hosting duties.

Celebrities such as Leah Remini, Vivica A. Fox, and Steve Wilkos guest-hosted the show while Williams sought treatment.

While she was meant to return, Williams ended up missing the remainder of the 2022 season until her show was eventually taken off air.

When did the last episode of The Wendy Williams Show air?

The Wendy Williams Show officially ended on June 17, 2022.

A spokesperson for the Wendy Williams Show told Deadline, “The final original episode of The Wendy Williams Show will air on Friday, June 17th, with a video tribute to the iconic host.

"The series comes to an end after 13 successful years in syndication."

Williams was not present during the last episode of the show.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Williams said: "[Debmar-Mercury] didn't ask me to do that, so I didn't. I sat in my apartment and I watched it. And [I was] like, 'ick!'"

Her show was replaced by former The View co-star Sherri Shepherd who filled in for the talk show host during the latter episodes of the final season.

After the show concluded, Williams remained away from the spotlight for over a year.

In February 2024, Lifetime revealed that they were releasing a documentary on Williams.

During the trailer, an emotional Williams gave insight into her health and that she was having money issues.

"I have no money," she revealed.

"And let me tell you something, if it happens to me, it can happen to you."

What health issues have Wendy Williams had?

Williams first went on a hiatus from her talk show due to health concerns surrounding her Graves' disease.

A spokesperson for her show told People at the time that the star had been "dealing with symptoms from her Graves' disease, which is causing fatigue."

She also confessed to the magazine that she was diagnosed with Graves' disease and hyperthyroidism 19 years ago.

"I feel a hundred percent better than I was a few months ago. I had a storm going in my body is the best way I can explain it," said Williams at the time.

"It came from me neglecting my six-month endocrinology appointment. I have Graves' disease and hyperthyroid.

"If you have one you don't necessarily have to have the other, but I have both, and I was diagnosed with both 19 years ago," she added.
