In response to COVID, several modifications have been made to the annual Quilcene Fair and parade, but the show will go on, albeit exclusively outdoors.

The Quilcene School grounds at 294715 Highway 101 will allow ample spacing for vendors and the enjoyment of live music without crowding.

Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept.18, with the parade beginning at 11 a.m.  All contests will be held outside in a tent instead of the exhibit hall.

Garden Show contest entries for the “best flower arrangement” and “weirdest vegetable” need to be dropped off in the Quilcene School gym between 4 and 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17. Arts-and-crafts show entries are due at the same place and time.

The car show will be held behind the school. Car admission is $10, which is waived if the vehicle is driven in the parade. The first 50 cars will receive dash plaques, and there will be trophies for best in show, best hot rod, and best classic car. People’s choice categories have been switched to mobile voting to eliminate the use of shared pens or pencils.

A planting activity for kids will be available as a take-home kit, and all other previously planned children’s activities are canceled to limit close proximity and contact.

Extra sanitation facilities are planned for and there will be free personal protective equipment and masks. All Center for Disease Control guidelines and Jefferson County regulations will be followed.

Vaccination and mask wearing is encouraged, including masking for children too young to be vaccinated. Organizers ask people to stay home if experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, and added that the modifications and recommendations were made after thoughtful consideration, and in respectful consideration of the Quilcene community.
