If you think about it, there are a lot of similarities between Frank Grillo and Sylvester Stallone. Both are badass action stars that have made long careers out of being the toughest dude in the room when appearing on screen. So, it makes sense that both men are friends and upcoming collaborators. And it makes even more sense that Grillo is going to take on a role that Stallone made popular decades earlier.

In an upcoming episode of The Playlist Podcast (arriving later this week), Frank Grillo teased a new collaboration between himself and Sylvester Stallone. Apparently, the two are going to remake the 1981 film, “Nighthawks,” but as a new TV series. And adding to the excitement is the fact that Stallone appears to be one of the filmmakers on board to direct episodes.
“I’m doing a TV show with Sly [Stallone],” said Grillo. “Remember the movie ‘Nighthawks?’ It’s him and Rutger Hauer. We’re remaking it as a limited mini-series, and he’s going to direct me and I’m going to play his role.”
In the 1981 film, Stallone plays a cop who is on the hunt for a terrorist that is threatening an attack in New York City. Obviously, there are likely going to be some changes made to the story, but you can easily see Grillo stepping into that role with no problems whatsoever.
In addition to “Nighthawks,” Grillo also teased his return to “The Purge” franchise and how he’s still involved with the upcoming remake of “The Raid.” With the latter, it appears that filmmaker Patrick Hughes is still developing the film and is eyeing Grillo for a role.
“We, Joe [Carnahan] and I, have a script called ‘Zeno’ that’s similar [to ‘The Raid’]—very different, but similar—that’s in development right now. It could go in 2022,” said Grillo. “My buddy, Patrick Hughes—that I did ‘Hitman’s Bodyguard’s Wife’ with—he has signed on to direct the American version of ‘The Raid’ . And he said, ‘I want you to do this.’ So I have to see what’s going to happen here and which movie’s going to go first.”
“Nighthawks,” “The Raid,” “Zeno,” “The Purge 6,” and his new films “This is the Night” and “Copshop” all show just how busy Frank Grillo is. You’d be seemingly hardpressed to find a film out there without the actor showing up in it.
