The rescue happened in a 100 year old building
Reba McEntire was one of seven people rescued from a second story building after stairs collapsed in Oklahoma. McEntire, and boyfriend Rex Linn, were among those who had to be evacuated via a fire ladder in Atoka on Tuesday (Sept 14th) afternoon, near the country singer’s hometown of Chockie. The pair were part of a group touring the 100 year old historic building for an unknown future project when the second and third story stairs collapsed.
“While my team and I were in Atoka, OK yesterday checking out an old historical building, a staircase collapsed,” McEntire shares on social media. “Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. We were safely evacuated from the building thanks to the quick response from the Atoka fire and police departments.”
“We were just touring the building and the stairwell was weak it seemed weak but we did not realize how weak it was until several people had gone down it and then we heard the crash and saw the stairs fall,” Coby Scherrill, who was among those rescued, shares with KXII TV.
The building was in the middle of a renovation with the stairwells set to be replaced when the incident happened.
McEntire was not injured, but one person was taken to a Durant hospital for minor injuries.
On October 8th, McEntire will release Revived Remixed Revisited on CD and digitally on October 8th and LP on November 12th via UMG Nashville. She is expected to wrap her Las Vegas Caesars Palace residency with Brooks & Dunn with nine shows in December. After nearly seven years, Reba, Brooks & Dunn: Together in Vegas residency is the longest running country residency on the Strip. Since opening in June 2015, the trio has played 82 shows to more than 300,000 fans and continues to receive rave reviews. A variety of ticketing options, including VIP seats with signed merch, is on sale now via Ticketmaster.
She also plans to return to the road in January 2022 for a three month arena tour that was postponed several times due to the pandemic. The trek was originally set to run spring of 2020, and then pushed to summer 2020 before being delayed to summer 2021. Fans should expect a new show with several costume changes and revisited material.
