HURON — Yankton escaped with a 1-0 victory against Huron in a boys’ varsity soccer game on Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.

The Bucks scored the lone goal of the game in the second half during the 54th minute.

“Yankton really pressed us hard and was a great team. They have only lost one game all season, and I felt our boys came out and played a full 80 minutes hard from start to finish,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said.

Despite suffering the setback, Branaugh was happy with what she saw from her team, which is now 3-4-1.

“Our passes and communication was clicking. We had some chances on the offensive end and kept putting pressure on Yankton to make the stops,” she said. “I feel our boys played their best game of the season tonight. They were able to use the speed to their advantage and create plays against a much bigger Yankton team. "

With the win, the Bucks improved to 7-1-1.

Alex Bautista had 13 saves in the net for the Tigers.

Yankton emerged with a 5-4 win in the junior varsity boys’ game.

Kuh Ner Moo had three goals and an assist for Huron, while Beauty Moon had a goal and Nick Kleinsasser and Lauy Kue Say each had an assist.

Micah Larson had eight saves for the Tigers in the JV game.

Huron will travel to face Sioux Falls Jefferson at 4 p.m. Thursday.
