A Michigan singer has the best song in the history of music, according to Rolling Stone. The publication just released its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list, remaking it for the first time since 2004.

To come up with this list, Rolling Stone said it polled more than 250 artists, musicians and producers, as well as figures from the music industry, critics and journalists. Each sent the publication a ranked list of their top 50 songs. The results are now in.

Coming in at number 1 on the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list is the “Queen of Soul,” Aretha Franklin, with her version of “Respect.”

Arguably Franklin’s signature song, “Respect” was written and originally recorded by Otis Redding. He released it as a single in 1965. Franklin covered it in 1967 and the rest is history as the song became her first number one hit.

The last time Rolling Stone released its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time List 17 years ago, “Respect” came in at number 5 with Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” topping the list.

Also in the top 10 on the new list released today with Michigan ties, coming in at number 6, Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” from Motown Records. This song was number 4 on the 2004 list.
