The Chicago White Sox look to widen their lead in the AL Central, as the Los Angeles Angels are merely showing up for this game given their playoff chances are all but mathematically over. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make an Angels-White Sox prediction and pick.

The White Sox won the opener of this series on Tuesday and have the obvious pitching advantage in Wednesday's game. While the Angels have the best overall player in this series in Shohei Ohtani, one player can only do so much. The White Sox as a team have been dominant all season — literally since April — and will be a top World Series favorite come October.

Here’s how the bookmakers have set the lines for Wednesday’s game.

Los Angeles Angels +1 1/2 (+105)

Chicago White Sox – 1 1/2 (-125)

Over 9 1/2 runs (-103)

Under 9 1/2 runs (-117)

Why The Angels Could Cover

“Cover” is the key word here. With a rookie pitcher on the mound and a struggling lineup facing one of baseball's best teams, picking the Angels here is more so if they can get the game within one run. While starting pitcher Jason Junk is making just his second ever MLB start, don't underestimate the rookie. In his debut, he went 3 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, but only one of those runs was earned.

In the series opener on Tuesday, the Angels actually got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, so if they can replicate that in this one, maybe Junk can allow another one or so earned runs again, holding the White Sox off the board just long enough to make this a closer game than anticipated.

Honestly, there is not a ton to like about the Halos here, but I do have some confidence in the rookie starting pitcher. Also, a lineup with Ohtani has a chance in every game they play.

Why The White Sox Could Cover

Over his last four starts, Dallas Keuchel has a 12.89 ERA. This streak of bad pitching is just not sustainable. He's bound to improve at least somewhat, simply based on the law of averages. In June, Keuchel posted a 2.70 ERA in five games pitched.

So, who's the real Keuchel?

It's likely somewhere in between those two extreme ERA marks. Keuchel has demonstrated already this season that he is capable of tossing a quality start every now and then, and at times, he has done so onsistently. I think against a struggling Angels lineup, Keuchel bounces back from his poor play lately and throws one of those quality starts that White Sox fans have missed for weeks.

The dominant White Sox lineup has the momentum now, which should carry over to at least a couple of home runs and a third consecutive victory, by at least several runs.

Final Angels-White Sox Prediction & Pick

I'm hoping for a Keuchel rebound start here and a dominant showing by Chicago's offense against a struggling rookie starter. The White Sox win, 7-2, as Keuchel shows the pitcher that he was earlier this season. The White Sox not only have the pitching edge and the lineup advantage, but they are also on a winning streak, unlike the Angels.

FINAL PICK: White Sox – 1 1/2 (-125)
