It’s hard to believe the end of the MiLB season is right around corner but alas, here we are with just a few weeks remaining. We’ve seen some late season promotions for the Atlanta Braves system including the likes of Royber Salinas making his second start for the Augusta Greenjackets after spending a majority of the season in the FCL. Over in Rome, Tanner Gordon looks to turn the corner and provide Rome with a good start to get them four games under .500 on the season. The dominant Mississippi Braves turn to Jared Shuster to try and pick up impressive win number 65 on season, while Gwinnett turns to Kyle Wright to keep the fun going and pick up their 67th win.

Kyle Wright and the Gwinnett Stripers clung onto a back-and-forth game that saw them come from behind a couple of times to secure the win. Wright pitched a solid game, going six innings, striking out six while giving up four earned runs. A majority of the damage came in the top of the second when he gave up a bases loaded triple to give Nashville a 3-0 lead.

Gwinnett quickly responded with a solo homerun in the bottom half of the inning by Ryan Goins to trim the deficit to 3-1. A ground-rule double by Jason Kipnis scored Drew Waters in the bottom of the third inning, and Johan Camargo would later single in Kipnis to tie the game at 3-3. The Sounds would respond with a run of their own in the top of the fifth, but Jason Kipnis got to work yet again and hit his 10th home run of the season, this one of the two-run variety, to give Gwinnett the 5-4 lead. Johan Camargo would add onto that lead with an RBI triple of his own that would score Kipnis to extend the lead for Gwinnett to 6-4. That additional run was vital as Brooks Wilson made his Triple-A debut and gave up a run, but ultimately closed out the game and secured the victory for Gwinnett.

Timely hitting, and solid pitching was the equation for win number 66 for the Mississippi Braves. Jared Shuster got the start and gave up three over five innings while striking out six. Shuster got hit hard early in the game, giving up a pair of solo homers in the first, with apparently lower velocity than normal.

But he was still able to find his groove and work an additional four innings where he gave up just one more run, but it too was a solo homerun. Tyler Ferguson, Odalvi Javier, and Nolan Kingham would close out the game working a combined four innings and giving up one unearned run.

Offensively, it was great work from the top four, and the bottom two in the lineup. The heavy lifting was done by Shea Langeliers who drove in four of the teams’ six runs. He had an RBI single in the first, a two-run home run in the third, and a sacrifice fly in the seventh. The homer was hit the opposite way which impressed many a people.

Braden Shewmake ended his rough night where he went 1-for-5 with three strikeouts on a good note, slugging his 12th home run of the season.

Box Score

Tanner Gordon pitched six effective innings for Rome in their seven run drubbing of the Hickory Crawdads. Tanner, along with Zach Daniels, shut out the Crawdads through eight innings before Justin Yeager yielded a single run in the ninth.

The Rome offense got to work early in the game when Vaughn Grissom drove in a run on a sacrifice fly that scored Riley Delgado. They would score another pair of runs in the fourth inning, one by Michael Harris who had a phenomenal game going 3-for-4 while driving in two runs. Harris would add that second RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning with a double that scored Javier Valdes. Vaughn Grissom, who has been downright phenomenal with Rome went 1-for-3, and now has a 1.179 OPS. They would score two more runs in that inning on a fielding error by the shortstop that would allow Harris and Delgado to score.

Augusta lead from start to finish in this one behind a very bizarre start for Royber Salinas who dazzled hitters giving up just a pair of hits through five innings of work, but worked in and out of jams with an astounding five walks while striking out eight.

After getting a pair of runs over the first couple of innings and claiming a 2-0 lead, Augusta put up three runs in the fifth to really open up things. Bryson Horne had an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0, and then Christian Robinson added a two-run single to extend Augusta’s lead to 5-0. From there, the Augusta pitching staff pitched in and out of trouble, surrendering one run in the fifth, and then three runs in the sixth inning off of Ben Thompson to make it 5-4. Ultimately, Alec Barger, and Peyton Williams came in to pitch the final three innings to preserve the win for the Greenjackets.
