Kim Kardashian's fully-covered black Balenciaga look at the Met Gala 2021 quickly became the talk of the town. It was instantly meme'd, of course, and will definitely be one of the Gala looks that goes down in history. While Kim's face was totally covered by a balaclava, her go-to makeup artist revealed that she was wearing a full face of makeup underneath.

Kim's makeup artist and friend Mario Dedivanovic revealed the star's full look on Instagram, sharing behind-the-scenes pics of Kim before she donned the full-coverage Balenciaga look. According to Mario, he first prepped Kim's skin with the iconic Crème de la Mer, among other La Mer products (he's a partner of the brand), then used his eponymous line, Makeup by Mario, to design Kim's simple, sculpted makeup look. We also spied a KKW Beauty pencil among Mario's stash of products, because obviously.

The final look was classic Kim: perfect brows, glowing yet matte skin, a subtly smoky eye, and her old faithful, contoured cheeks. Mario finished off the look with a barely-there neutral lip. As for the rest of her beauty moment, Kim went with a long, neutral manicure and an extra-long ponytail, which popped right out of her mask as she walked the Met stairs. Kim also shared a few behind-the-scenes peeks on her Instagram, including another look at the makeup; although it was shot in black and white, you can see that all the elements of an iconic Kim Kardashian makeup look are there.

Despite the fact that Kim's face was totally covered, she probably took the mask off at some point during the night to eat and drink, so she'd want a little makeup on for such purposes. Even though we didn't get to see her face on the carpet, she looks great — and we'll never forget that masked moment, or the many hilarious memes it spawned. We'll have to wait and see how she tops this look at the next Gala!
