WHEATON, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The head of the DuPage County Board said he does not plan to run for re-election next year.
DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin, 61, made his announcement during Tuesday’s county board meeting.
"I have decided that I will not be a candidate for DuPage County Board Chairman in 2022," Cronin said.
Cronin has been chairman since 2010, and when December 2022 rolls around, he will have served three full terms as chairman. He also served for 20 years as a state lawmaker.
Among his accomplishments, Cronin helped eliminate the quarter-cent sales tax and fought for western access to O’Hare.
During Tuesday's meeting, Cronin praised his wife, Julie, and his four grown children.
"While I have had many successes politically and professionally, being their dad is the best, most important, most meaningful work of my life," he said.
Cronin told the Daily Herald he’s that his decision to not seek reelection is not because of the Democratic control of the board. And he added that he doesn’t rule out running for something down the line.
"I still plan to be very much involved," Cronin told the Daily Herald. "I'm going to sit this election cycle out, though."
