MUSKEGON – There is no longer a magic number of wins needed to qualify for the Michigan high school football playoffs.
A new system, founded by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association and implemented by the MHSAA’s representative council, will reward teams based on quality of wins and strength of schedule as opposed to the old “Six wins and you’re in” methodology.
The playoff points system will grant 32 teams in each division a spot in the postseason. After three weeks of action, several Muskegon-area programs are already projected to be participating members of the playoff race, while a few other teams sit just outside the mix.
Below is a look at which teams would make the cut for the postseason if the regular season ended today and which teams are on the outside looking in.
