On TV this Wednesday: James McAvoy takes on a unique challenge, Robin Roberts interviews Amanda Gorman, and America’s Got Talent and MasterChef crown new champions. Here are 10 programs to keep on your radar; all times are Eastern.
Film premiere: James McAvoy (His Dark Materials) worked without a script on this missing-person thriller — an English-language remake of the 2017 French film Mon Garcon — improvising and reacting to each moment in real time; Claire Foy (The Crown) co-stars. (Watch trailer.)
Season 6 premiere (all six episodes): Prepare for a hot mess as a new crop of amateur bakers enter the kitchen and try to recreate edible masterpieces.
Season 11 finale (two episodes): Chef Curtis Stone returns as a guest judge; Michelin star chef Michael Cimarusti graces the kitchen; a winner is crowned.
Season 3 finale: The Elizabeth Banks-hosted reboot tips its hat to her turn as Hunger Games‘ Effie Trinket with the episode title “May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor.”
Archie opens up to Uncle Frank about his time in the Army; Jughead embarks on an apology tour. (Read “Barchie” reunion preview.)
Season 5 finale: Sex and the City‘s Mario Cantone takes on Gossip Girl‘s Laura Benanti; Holey Moley‘s Joe Tessitore faces comedian Bridget Everett.
Season 16 finale (Night 2 of 2): Idina Menzel, Pentatonix, Bishop Briggs, actor/comedian George Lopez, Modern Family‘s Rico Rodriguez, AGT Season 9 winner Mat Franco, and Olympic Silver Medal gymnasts Jordan Chiles and MyKayla Skinner appear; the winning act is revealed. (Who will win? Who should win?)
Season 1 finale (two episodes, unfortunately): Dr. Phil attempts to save a 17-year marriage, then confronts an unhealthy codependent relationship between a mother and her two adult sons.
The 20/20 special reveals the never-before-seen personal side of the first National Youth Poet Laureate, who captivated millions when she read an original poem during the Biden inauguration.
As Harry struggles with Alma, Doris is pushed past her limits. (Fall behind? Read Episode 4 recap.)
🧪 ON THIS DAY IN TV HISTORY 🧪
On Sept. 15, 2013, Breaking Bad aired its highly acclaimed, antepenultimate episode, “Ozymandias,” which opens with a Walt/Jesse flashback that was actually the show’s last scene filmed. (Who earned Performer of the Week that week?)
The Big Leap – Hulu just released the first two episodes ahead of it’s season premiere on Fox next week – and I am OBSESSED!! So meta and genius and so, so funny. Can’t wait three weeks for the next episode!
Really? It seemed like a strange concept for a long term weekly series. I need to look for it on Hulu.
I watched both episodes last night and loved it, too. What a pleasant surprise! It didn’t look like my cup of tea, but I am hooked.
My Son sounds interesting.
