Britney Spears Explains Why She Has Deactivated Her Instagram Account

Britney Spears sparked concern among her fans on Tuesday, when her Instagram account appeared to have been suddenly deleted.

The pop icon, who boasted more than 34 million followers on the image-sharing platform, actively used her account right up until the hours before it vanished without an explanation or any fanfare.

And as speculation mounted as to what may have happened, the "Gimme More" singer took to her Twitter account to share an update with her army of fans.

Addressing her 55.5 million followers, she wrote: "Don't worry folks ... just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement !!!! I'll be back soon."

The star has enjoyed a celebratory few days, after announcing her engagement to model, actor and personal trainer Sam Asghari on Sunday.

Spears posted a seconds-long video of herself showing off a dazzling diamond ring as she posed alongside her fiancé, 27.

The day before her Instagram account was deactivated, Spears spoke of being "controlled by someone else" in "almost everything" she did during her controversial 13-year conservatorship.

Her father, Jamie Spears, recently filed a petition to step down as her conservator after overseeing her personal and professional affairs since 2008.

And the pop star shared a text post entitled "Infusing education with heart" on Monday, after having uploaded a portion of it days earlier.

She wrote in an accompanying caption: "I had to repost this so you can see the whole article 📰 !!!!! Growing up in a world where basically almost everything I did was controlled by someone else ...

"I hope this message gets to people who have been confused or manipulated by a system !!!! No ... you're not alone and no ... you're not crazy !!!! People need to hear this before it's TOO LATE !!!!

"I've waited 13 years and counting for my freedom !!!!! Again ... team #FreeBritney you guys f****** kick ass 💪🏼 !!!!! Love you so much and God bless 💕✨🌹!!!!"

Don’t worry folks … just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement 💍😉 !!!! I’ll be back soon 💋🌹✨

The excerpt read, in part: "We need children growing up trusting their inner authority rather than blindly granting power to external authorities of information.

"We need empowered teens and adults with a strong internal locus of control willing to image and create new life-giving products and systems, rather than having a habitual external locus of control that weakens them and their creativity over time, and causes anxiety and depression."

In June, Spears shone a light on her conservatorship when she said during a damning court testimony that she had been made to perform in shows, take psychiatric medication and wear a contraceptive device against her will.

While Spears has since scored a court victory with her father agreeing to step down from her conservatorship, Jodi Montgomery continues to oversee her personal decisions under the court agreement.

Montgomery will remain in place until the presiding judge rules otherwise. The next Los Angeles Superior Court hearing on the case is scheduled for September 29.
