Britney Spears has temporarily deactivated her Instagram account.

It's been an eventful week for the popstar, having got engaged to partner Sam Asghari and received positive news in the ongoing conservatorship controversy involving her father Jamie, and now she's explained that she's prioritising some peace and quiet.

Tweeting to her 55.5m followers yesterday (September 14), Spears wrote: "Don't worry folks … just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement !!!! I'll be back soon."

Just before her social media hiatus she shared these emotional words on Instagram too: "Growing up in a world where basically almost everything I did was controlled by someone else... I hope this message gets to people who have been confused or manipulated by a system !!!!

"No ... you're not alone and no ... you're not crazy !!!! People need to hear this before it's TOO LATE !!!! I've waited 13 years and counting for my freedom !!!!!"

Meanwhile, the 'Toxic' singer's conservatorship – which has seen her finances and day-to-day life under the control of her father – could soon be coming to an end, as dad Jamie has finally filed to end the arrangement.

Jamie's primary attorney Vivian Thoreen announced in a statement: "Ms Spears has told this Court that she wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship.

"As Mr Spears has said, again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter. If Ms Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr Spears believes that she should get that chance."

Upon her return to social media, hopefully she'll have an official update.
