Radamel Falcao's Shirt Number At New Club Rayo Vallecano Is Just Plain Wrong

It just doesn't look right...

Radamel Falcao has become the latest footballer to choose a shirt number that, historically speaking, doesn't belong to a striker - and his decision has annoyed football purists around the world.

It was announced earlier this month that the former FC Porto, Atletico Madrid and Monaco striker has officially completed a move to La Liga side Rayo Vallecano after his contract was terminated at Galatasaray.

The 35-year-old, who also enjoyed loan spells at Manchester United and Chelsea, will wear the number three jersey during the 2021/22 campaign as he returns to Spanish football for the first time since 2013.

Many, of course, are delighted to see El Tigre return to La Liga after what many believe was his best spell in football at Los Colchoneros, where he scored 70 goals in 91 games between 2011 and 2013.

But his unusual shirt number hasn't exactly received the warmest of welcomes.

Despite a questionable choice in shirt number, Falcao is delighted to be joining a club like Rayo Vallecano, who currently sit 12th in the La Liga standings.

"It is an opportunity for my career, I am very happy to join this institution," he said.

"It is a place where they will give me all the confidence to be able to give my best and be part of a team with a very nice spirit.

"I know several players from there, they have transmitted to me what the dressing room, the coaching staff are like, so I feel very proud to be part of this club and to return to a league that I already know, which is very competitive and surely it will allow me to continue growing."
