Bonnie McGuire, 87, of Thayer, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, at her home. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Jim Morris will officiate.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery south of Thayer. The service will also be livestreamed on powersfh.com

Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Memorials are kindly suggested to Afton Fire Department. Online condolences can be made at www.powersfh.com

Bonnie E. McGuire, daughter of Roy Thompson and Susie Eliza (Selby) Thompson, was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Adams County. She was early on educated at Adams County School No. 8, later graduating from Corning High School.

On May 16, 1964, Bonnie was united in marriage to James William McGuire in Red Oak. They settled on the family farm south of Thayer. Bonnie worked as an active mother, homemaker and farmwife, assisting with all aspects of farming. She also worked as a clerk and bookkeeper for Jim McGuire Auctioneering. Bonnie was on the election board for her area, she also was a member of Oak Hill Church and a member of the Oak Hill Ladies Aid.

Survivors include her five children: Jo Anne (husband Mike) Duckworth of Creston, Bill (wife Diane) McGuire of Thayer, Richard McGuire of Oklahoma City, Okla., David (wife Rita) McGuire of Thayer, and John McGuire of Thayer; daughter-in-law Robin Vogel, sister Leota Hunter, sister-in-law Darlene Kinneman of Kansas City, Mo., nine grandchildren: Dani Lisk (Kenneth Witmer) of Des Moines, Michael Duckworth Jr., Casey McGuire of Thayer, Matthew (wife Krista) McGuire of Corpus Christi, Texas, Dillon (wife Laura) McGuire of Laverne, Okla., Ethan (wife Stacy) McGuire of Thayer, Sydney (husband Christopher) Whitesel of Omaha, Neb., Hillary (husband Rusty) Zimmerman of Creston and Clarissa (husband Mitch) Pashek of Creston; as well as 13 great-grandchildren.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim McGuire in 2017, a son Ray Vogel, two sisters Viola Hoffman and Juanita Horseman, three brothers: Ray Thompson, Charles Thompson, Merle Thompson and brother-in-law-Bob Kinneman.
