The Dutch National Opera has announced its 2021-22 Opera Studio young artists.

This season the company will have singers from Russia, France, Poland, South Korea, Israel, Ukraine, and Puerto Rico. The artists will be Claire Antoine, Inna Demenkova, Ian Matthew Castro, Chanhee Cho, Adam Rogala, and Maksym Nazarenko.

In a statement, Rosemary Joshua, Head Dutch National Opera Studio, said, “We continue our collaborations with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Concertgebouw Academie, Grachtenfestival, NPO Radio4. We appear in Opera Forward Festival with Ted Huffman and Philip Venables’ catchy and hard-hitting opera, Denis and Katya. The young artists also take many roles on the main stage. The progress, development, and success of the studio is remarkable in a short space of time seen through our recent alumni who are all thriving with successful freelance careers, and many of whom have started permanent contracts in German houses. This year, a gifted group of artists have begun with enthusiasm and inspiration and I look forward to guiding them through this new chapter in their artistic and vocal development.”

Antoine and Demenkova made their debut with Dutch National Opera in Zemlinsky’s “Der Zwerg” while Castro will sing the roles of Gastone in “La traviata” and Signor Hervey in “Anna Bolena” this season at the Dutch National Opera. Meanwhile, Cho will make his Dutch debut as the second Soldat in “Salome,” and he will sing the role of Ein Eremit in “Der Freischütz.”

Rogala will work as a répétiteur in DNO’s “La traviata” and “Tosca” while Gour will take on the roles of Flora in “La traviata” and page der Herodias in “Salome.” Finally, Nazarenko will start his second year with Dutch National Opera Studio and take on the roles of Ein Kappadozier in “Salome” and Denis in “Denis & Katya.”
