Two-time Paralympic gold medalist Morgan Stickney returns home to Manchester
After years of medical setbacks and two amputations, Morgan Stickney returned from Japan, a Paralympic double-gold medalist. Manchester’s newest golden girl arrived home in style on Tuesday night. Family and friends were ready and waiting to welcome Stickney home, and get a close look at the precious medals she won in Tokyo this summer. “It was absolutely incredible, it was just so cool to experience Japan and then to see some of the best athletes from all over the world,” Stickney said. “So, it was just a really cool experience.”The 24-year-old won swimming gold at the Paralympics in Japan. She was part of the Team USA 4x100 medley relay win and she also won an individual gold in the 400-meter freestyle. So, when I looked up I was completely shocked that I did,” she said. Injuries, chronic pain and other complications in her feet led to Stickney having both legs amputated below the knee just three years ago.With everything she has gone through, the gold medals mean just as much to her family as they do to her.Stickney’s mother Sheri said she feels like she won gold too.“I really, really do, all her hard training and everything just really paid off,” Sheri Stickney said. Morgan wants others to never give up, “Because anything is possible, and I think by going to Tokyo for me the biggest thing that I learned is no dream is too big. So, always dream big.”
