Dave Grohl Says This Foo Fighters Song Was Inspired By Kurt Cobain's Death

Everyone knows Foo Fighters was born from the ashes of Nirvana; however, in Rolling Stone's cover story with the Foos, Grohl revealed that the band's 2011 song "Walk" was actually inspired by Kurt Cobain's death.

“It kind of comes from the day after Kurt died,” he explained. “Waking up that morning and realizing, ‘Oh, s**t, he’s not here anymore. I am. Like, I get to wake up and he doesn’t. I’m making a cup of coffee. And he can’t. I’m gonna turn on the radio. And he won’t.’ That was a big revelation to me."

“I think also in life, you get trapped in crisis, where you imagine there’s no way out," he continued. "When really, if you dare to consider that crisis a blip on the radar, it’s easier to push through. And, yeah, I was just like, ‘I don’t want anyone to have that feeling that I had that morning.’”

In the song, Grohl proclaims "I never want to die," and it's a sentiment he feels strongly about.

“I’m serious,” he said. “I don’t want to f**king die! I know it’s inevitable, but I don’t want to. That’s gonna be such a drag.”

After a rare pause, he made a promise to the world: “I’ll fight it as f**king long as I can.”
