PROVINCETOWN — A film shoot is planned Wednesday for what is being billed as the first romantic comedy about gay men produced by a major studio.

About 120 film crew members are expected to be on site throughout town filming “Bros,” an NBC Universal production.

Actor/comedian/writer Billy Eichner (TV's "Parks and Recreation," "Billy on the Street," "American Horror Story") stars in the movie, which is produced by Judd Apatow, with Nick Stoller as the director, according to a March story in The Hollywood Reporter.

Actor Luke Macfarlane (TV's "Brothers & Sisters," "Sense, Sensibility and Snowmen") will star opposite Eichner, and the film is "certainly the first to feature two openly gay male leads," according to Collider.com in August. The film is expected to be released Aug. 12, 2022, according to NBC Universal.

Actors Billy Eichner, right, and Luke Macfarlane will star together in NBC Universal's gay romantic comedy "Bros," which filmed for one day in Provincetown.

On Monday, the Select Board approved the concept of the location agreement between the town and the production company, The Bros Movie LLC. Details of the agreement were to be finalized by town staff and legal counsel. The agreement allows the film production company to enter onto and use property controlled by the town, which includes streets.

One primary filming location is from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the Red Inn at 15 Commercial St., and the second primary location is from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the West End parking lot, at 55 Commercial St., according to paperwork the film company submitted to the town. The filming and wrap-up is described as throughout town, ending at 8 p.m.

The scenes to be filmed are the two main actors walking around the West End of Commercial Street, according to the paperwork. They have a drink at the Red Inn, and then they walk down to MacMillan Pier. They go to fudge shops, the Toys of Eros retail store, and they eat pizza at Spiritus Pizza. They walk by the Atlantic House bar, the Boatslip resort and they end their day with dinner at The Canteen. They then watch the sunset on the beach behind The Canteen.

Auxiliary shots will be taken of a car driving past the Provincetown sign on Route 6A, near Snail Road; some background actors passing out flyers at the Crown & Anchor resort; And shots of the pier, Commercial Street and the sunset at the rock jetty at the West End rotary.

Town streets will be used, and traffic control by the police department has been requested throughout the day, according to the paperwork. The film production's main office will be at Harbor Hotel at 698 Commercial St., and crews will be working at a private parking lot off Bradford Street and at Provincetown Town Hall.

Within the last two years, TV producers have filmed part of the 10th season of the popular FX show "American Horror Story" in Provincetown, as well as part of two seasons of the STARZ show "Hightown."

On Monday Select Board member Louise Venden raised objections about the content of "Hightown," which she said offended some townspeople. "Hightown" follows hard-partying Jackie Quiñones (played by actor Monica Raymund), a Provincetown resident who reconsiders her life after finding a body washed up on the beach.

"I think the town will be portrayed in a good way," Town Manager Alex Morse said of "Bros," in response to Venden's comment.

More information is needed about the content of each film planned, Venden said. Morse suggested that in the future, more could be provided to the board.

Town officials announced temporary road and parking closures for Wednesday, due to the filming, and asked drivers to avoid the center of town and the West End.
