Riverdale EP Hints at ‘Barchie’ Reunion: ‘They More Than Just Glance at Each Other’ in Season 5’s Final Episodes
Have you been waiting not so patiently for things between Riverdale‘s Archie and Betty to heat back up again? You may not have to wait much longer.
After the CW drama did a seven-year time jump earlier this season, the two childhood friends were more like friends with benefits, sneaking off for a series of steamy no-strings hookups before agreeing that they should keep things platonic. Since then, “Barchie” ‘shippers have been dissecting every last glance the two have exchanged, hoping for those passions to be rekindled. And as executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa hints, that patience is about to pay off.
Archie and Betty “more than just glance at each other as we head into these last few episodes” of Season 5, the EP teases. (Riverdale still has four more episodes left before a short hiatus leading into Season 6, which premieres Nov. 16.) “In our minds, Betty and Archie’s story didn’t end in Episode 8, when they decided they just were going to be friends. That story isn’t over, and we do pick back with it before the end of the season.”
Season 6 of Riverdale kicks off with a five-episode mini event, and Aguirre-Sacasa cryptically adds that “events in the [Season 5] finale are definitely also continued into Season 6, including our five-episode miniseries.” What might those “events” be, you ask? Well, you can expect to see Riverdale‘s romantic pairings hit the refresh button: “You will see new couplings that probably you’ll have seen coming a mile away, and then I think you’ll see some new couples that are a bit more unexpected.”

I love Barchie so I’m totally for this. Bughead is boring and has long since been done for. Let’s go back to what made the comics iconic and that was Barchie. Varchie has also been done to death.
Barchie was the most exciting thing about season 5 with Toni being the new pack leader. Both elements were taken away too soon. We were promised a revamp that lasted a couple of episodes. At least, Toni disappearing was justified BTS but I’m glad the writers are circling back to barchie.

Kinda trying to copy and paste the whole Bughead Falice situation or what? The show keeps getting worse. Just make Archie and Kevin a thing and Tabitha and Betty. Problem solved.
you can say none of the pairings have things to common if you wanted to. and you don’t need things in common in the first place. opposites attract for a reason. just say you don’t like barchie and go. lol.

I mean let it run it’s course. They have to at least try it. But Veronica and Archie and Betty and Jughead are endgame so whatevs 😆 it is weird that even archie’s scene with veronica seemed also like a pause and not a finish. Seems like archie is getting around 😬🤣
To be fair I don’t watch regularly but just reading social media? I don’t see but a handful of Barchie shippers. Not to mention the chemistry ain’t there with the actors. I do, however, see so many people who want Betty/Jughead & Veronica/Archie back together. So why are they so insistent on pushing Barchie on the fans?

No, no and again no. This makes no sense. They already had this conversation SEVERAL times and every time they decided that they are friends. At this point it’s just super stupid and chicken of writers. And this is disrespectful for the characters they wrote for 4,5 seasons. Their need for drama ruined the show

I like Jughead and Betty together they take the edge off the mobster Veronica family. I personally thought Archie would wind up with the girl from Josie n the pussycats. Hate hearing Jugheads dad leaving the show. Bad enuff we lost Luke Perry God Bless him. I’d love to see more Cheryl n Kevin them two are a riot refreshingly cute. Cheryl’s amazing not crazy about Toni serpent lady her storyline is flat. Lovely Monroe blackwood worst part of show for me. I’ve watched him in many shows lifetime movies he deserved better. I guess I missed an episode he dies?. Oh well maybe Veronics will tell her father to shove it finally lololol
I really don’t understand why they push this ship so much. It’s obvious that it’s not what a majority of viewers wants. It was so good to see new view of Archie comics, where they don’t portrait Betty as a doormat for Archie who can’t decide which girl he want today. After all the stories that Riverdale gave people — it’s super disgusting and makes all the characters either look pathetic, either hypocritical. Shame
Ratings prove that it IS what majority wants. No one is here for the 5th year in a row for a cheap Bugvarchie show.

Check ratings with and without Barchie. Barchie creates buzz, they are new, fresh and tassty. Bugvarchie is predictable, overdone and boring, we’ve seen it all.
Where did you get that info? Season 5 had maximum 0,500-0,600 millions viewers. Season 2, 3 and 4 has more than a million (2&3 actually had more than 2). Demo gets higher after 5×08, when BA was done. Even if you think that ba’s episodes has best ratings (tho I really can’t understand why people think that) it’s still their worst season

Man I would love to see Archiekins hook up with the queen of mean Cheryl Blossom. Yeah I know she’s a 100% er on the gay train now, but she was into guys before she woke and she could backslide right into A’s arms . Can you imagine the red-headed kiddos that Blossom/Andrews “merger” would result in?
Yay, finally Barchie. RAS is doing the right thing, especially considering how popular Barchie became and it’s what majority at this point wants. There is nothing left to explore with snoozefest Bughead (who btw never had any chemistry to begin with) and Varchie never had any fans, they just were here by default because Cole and Lili dated so they had to keep Bugbones longer than needed. It’s a win. Finally something new and interesting!
Betty and Archie were always soulmates. I might actually start watching again.
