Watch Kendall Jenner Get Ready for the Met Gala

On last night’s Met gala red carpet, Kendall Jenner was among the best dressed in her sheer beige dress by Givenchy, which was trimmed with crystals. Designed by Matthew Williams, the gown was modeled after a look Audrey Hepburn wore in the 1964 film My Fair Lady. “She wore Givenchy in almost all of her movies,” Jenner tells Vogue. “She’s the biggest legend; I’ve been obsessed with her my whole life.”

Shortly before hitting the Met steps, however, Jenner allowed Vogue in on her glam getting-ready process at the Carlyle Hotel. The video begins with hair and makeup, for which makeup artist Mary Phillips and hairstylist Jen Atkin got to work. “This is our fourth Met ball together, and it feels like the first every time,” says Atkin. Then it was time for a quick visit from Williams, where he and Jenner discussed their attraction to their final design (stylist Marni Senofonte also had a hand in the look).  “I felt this dress was really beautiful and the lines were really pretty,” says Jenner.

Williams shared that they worked on the design together for the past three months. “The dress took 2,500 hours and 30 beaders to complete,” says the designer. While stunning, the train, embroidered with rhinestones, proved to be heavier than your average gown. “It’s going to be a challenge to walk in all night, but we’re going to make it work—because it’s worth it,” says Jenner.

After popping a quick mint, Jenner slipped into the dress, crammed herself and her team into the elevator, and headed on over to the Met. “It’s close—we have an easy commute,” says Jenner, as the Carlyle is just a few blocks away. Then she hit the carpet, where she was joined by mom Kris Jenner and sister Kim Kardashian, who also commanded attention in her Balenciaga couture. The Kardashians, lest you forget, always make headlines.
