MAYFIELD, Ohio -- It’s being held a little bit later than in past years -- and in 2020 it wasn’t held at all -- but Mayfield Village Cruise Night is back on Saturday (Sept. 18).

The popular annual event began in 1991 and draws spectators and vintage autos from far and wide each year. Although usually held in June, Cruise Night was pushed back this year due to the pandemic.

Cars that are at least 30 years of age cruise Wilson Mills Road during the entirety of the event, which takes place this year from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Because of that 30-year rule, this marks the first year that cars made in Cruise Night’s inaugural year are eligible for cruising.

Cruise Night isn’t all about cars, however, as food, music, face painting, inflatables and more are included in the night’s festivities.

“The Mayfield Village Family Cruise Night offers something for the whole family,” said village Recreation Director Shane McAvinew. “Stop by and enjoy a variety of classic cars in various parking lots, and the occasional cruise down Wilson Mills.

“The Family Zone area will keep your kids happy with a variety of family fun activities. The event stretches over a mile, so there is plenty of space for everyone.”

Because of the pandemic-induced cancellation of Cruise Night 2020, and this year’s later date, McAvinew was initially unsure how many classic car owners would bring their prize possessions to this year’s event.

When asked how many cars he expects to take part, McAvinew replied: “I anticipate over 500 cars will be in attendance. It could be more, but being a new date, I am guessing low.”

Of the response to the September date from vintage car owners, he said: “It was a little slow at first, but has picked up in the last few weeks. We have over 2,000 people stating an interest on Facebook in attending, and growing. We have had people email from West Virginia and Pennsylvania (about attending), and I am sure that a few other states will have interest.”

The bands lined up for Cruise Night 2021 include Ricky & the Rockets, performing music from the 1950s and ‘60s, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Yours Truly parking lot, 6675 Wilson Mills Road; FM 77, playing music of the 1970s and ‘80s, in the Austin’s Steakhouse lot, 6535 Wilson Mills Road, also beginning at 4:30 p.m.; and Faction Cleveland, with music from the 1990s to today, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the village gazebo at Wilson Mills and SOM Center roads.

Participating restaurants are Pizzazz Pizzeria, Pizza Roma, Piccolo Italian Restaurant and Austin’s Steakhouse.

In the case of inclement weather, Cruise Night will be held from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 19).
