Letter to the Editor: Time to change the gender at the top of Spartanburg city government

Time to change the gender at the top of Spartanburg city government

We have been blessed with good leadership in the City of Spartanburg for the last several years, particularly in the mayoral position. James Talley gave us inclusion; Bill Barnet – vision and action; and Junie White a continuation of both.

We are now faced with the dilemma of replacing the last of these exemplary mayors.

Over the years things have changed, but the basic principles of leadership still exist: character; listening to others; hearing with compassion; a willingness to take risks; taking advantage of all resources available; wisdom; and most of all, the strength to make hard decisions regardless of their popularity.

The next four years will present our city with many difficult problems that will require someone who has all of these attributes and more. And, I for one believe it is time that we change the gender at the top of city government to elect a woman. Cathy McCabe is ready to lead. She has the experience, the time, the inclination, the strength and the heart to guide us.

Talk to her. You will not be disappointed.
