The San Francisco Chronicle reports the Oakland A’s called up the former New York Yankees pitching prospect Tuesday from Triple-A Las Vegas.
This will be Acevedo’s second stint with the A’s this year. He made his MLB debut on June 21, and has appeared in a total of three games for Oakland, giving up three runs in three innings of work.
The A’s released Acevedo at the end of July, only to re-sign him to a minor-league deal two days later. According to the Chronicle, “His numbers at Las Vegas, in the hitter-friendly Triple-A West, are eye-catching. In 32 ⅔ innings, Acevedo has a 2.48 ERA with 22 hits allowed and 53 strikeouts.”
Acevedo joins an A’s team in the thick of the American League Wild-Card race. Oakland enters play Tuesday 2.5 games behind the Yankees and Boston Red Sox for the second wild-card spot.

A hard-throwing right-hander, Acevedo finished the 2016 season as the Yankees’ No. 6 overall prospect but injuries and inconsistency dropped his stock. In 2019, he moved to the bullpen full time. He was at the club’s alternate training site for all of 2020. Acevedo left the Yankees organization after the 2020 season and over the winter, he signed a minor-league contract with the A’s.
