John Wall may be on the move yet again.
After just one year with the Houston Rockets, the five-time All-Star point guard is working with the team to find a new home, according to The Athletic.
Wall will report to training camp and be “present” but is not expected to play in any games. There are no plans for a buyout for the remaining two years and $91.7 million on his contract, meaning a trade could be in the cards.
In a recent meeting, the two sides agreed to go their separate ways, with the Rockets undergoing a major rebuild around young players Christian Wood, Jalen Green, Kevin Porter Jr. and Jae’Sean Tate. Houston already has four additional first-round picks from trading James Harden and another from the deal that brought Wall over from Washington.
Trading Wall could make sense for both parties. The 31-year-old has been productive when healthy; he averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists during 40 games in the 2020-21 season while rehabbing from a torn Achilles. He is clearly better suited for a contender.
Houston went 17-55 last year and should be near the bottom of the standings again, though they have high hopes for Green, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
