New Brothers in Arms Game in the Works; Announcement When It's Ready

A new game from the Brothers in Arms series is in development, as revealed by Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software. Unfortunately, we won't learn anything more about it until the project is close to completion.

The somewhat forgotten Brothers in Arms series is likely to return with a new installment. That's the news from Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software, who spoke with Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price. The discussion took place as part of The AIAS Game Maker's Notebook podcast, originally made available to subscribers in April. However, the recording only appeared on YouTube two days ago. Yesterday, however, AltChar picked up Pitchford's words regarding the creation of a new game in the Brothers in Arms series. You can watch the footage below - the line in question apppears at 53:04.

"We are working on a new Brothers in Arms but I'm not saying s*** until the game is ready."

These words were spoken in the context of the history of Aliens: Colonial Marines, cited by Pitchford, which was allegedly announced by Sega and 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios) before any developer agreement was signed. "When someone hears: Gearbox, Aliens and Unreal Engine, they already have a specific game project in mind," said Gearbox's executive, explaining why the studio's other project, Borderlands 3, wasn't announced until its beta was ready.

Rumors of a new Brothers in Arms had been circulating online for several years. The latest major installment in the series, Hell's Highway, was released in 2008. Although it was received quite warmly - as evidenced by high user ratings on Metaciric (7.7/10) - it did not achieve the expected sales success. Gamers at the time were tired of WWII shooters, and BiA had to compete with Call of Duty and Battlefield. Well, the latter hasn't changed, but as BF 2042 won't offer a single-player mode, Gearbox may have a chance to cut itself a slice of the pie - especially if the new Brothers in Arms debuts some time after the release of CoD: Vanguard.

It's also worth remembering that a TV adaptation of Gearbox Software's shooter series is in development. You can find out more about it here.
