Netflix has revealed a first look at new drama series Colin in Black & White, which is being brought to our screens by When They See Us creator Ava DuVernay and American football star and civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick.
The brand new limited series, which was first announced last summer, will tell Kaepernick's coming-of-age story, focusing on the race, class and culture obstacles that he has had to overcome.
A Black adopted child of a white family, Kaepernick reached the highest levels of the American football league as an NFL quarterback, before becoming an activist and cultural icon, sparking international conversation after he kneeled during the US national anthem as a protest against police brutality and racial inequality.

We now have a trailer for the series, which you can watch above, as well as some first-look images, which give us our first look at Gotham actor Jaden Michael as the young Colin.
Parks and Recreation's Nick Offerman and The West Wing star Mary-Louise Parker also feature in the series as Colin's adoptive parents Rick and Teresa, while Kaepernick himself serves as the present-day narrator of his own story, with Netflix describing his role as "guiding viewers through a robust and colorfully presented array of historical and contemporary contextual moments".
As Netflix says, "You don't know Kaepernick until you know Colin".

Colin in Black & White is written by Emmy-nominated writer Michael Starrbury, who also worked with DuVernay on the acclaimed Netflix mini-series When They See Us.
After the series was first announced, Kaepernick spoke of his pride at bringing his past experiences to the screen, saying: "Too often we see race and Black stories portrayed through a white lens. We seek to give new perspective to the differing realities that Black people face.
"We explore the racial conflicts I faced as an adopted Black man in a white community, during my high school years. It's an honour to bring these stories to life in collaboration with Ava for the world to see."

DuVernay has said of the series: "With his act of protest, Colin Kaepernick ignited a national conversation about race and justice with far-reaching consequences for football, culture and for him, personally.
"Colin's story has much to say about identity, sports and the enduring spirit of protest and resilience. I couldn't be happier than to tell this story with the team at Netflix."
Colin in Black & White will begin streaming on Netflix on October 29.
