Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend Eric Clapton will perform at the Smoothie King Center as originally scheduled despite declaring he will not perform any venue in the UK that requires proof of vaccination to enter.
Clapton made international headlines when he declared he would not perform at any venue in the UK that requires patrons to show proof of vaccination to enter.
“Following the PM’s announcement on Monday the 19th of July 2021 I feel honour bound to make an announcement of my own: I wish to say that I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience present. Unless there is provision made for all people to attend, I reserve the right to cancel the show,” Eric Clapton wrote in a statement on U.K. social media platform Telegram.

Clapton is scheduled to perform in New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center this Saturday, Sept. 18 at 8:00 p.m.
The Smoothie King Center does require proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test result to enter the arena.
“Prior to entry, each person may present their verified digital proof of vaccination (LA Wallet or other official government sanctioned app) or an original, digital photograph or photocopy (both sides) of their CDC vaccination card. They may also present an official vaccination record issued by another state, foreign nation or the WHO,” said SKC spokesperson Jessica Holtzman in a press release.
Face coverings are also required to enter.
