The Toyota RAV4 is one of the best-selling vehicles in America. It has been the best-selling SUV for four years running. It makes its bones with a useful but efficient powertrain, a slick all-wheel drive setup and a sweet looking face, thanks to it taking some 4Runner cues a few years back. We have a selection of trims to choose from here the US, but how about Europe?

Across the pond the RAV4 comes second in sales to only the Ford Kuga in the segment. Toyota moved almost 100,000 units on the continent in each of the last two years. Looking to grab more market share in in Europe, Toyota just introduced the 2022 RAV4 Adventure, with a selection of features meant for outdoor enjoyment and a few adjustments to its nose.

"This new version will broaden the model's market reach to people who want a vehicle that matches their love of life off the beaten track, while preserving the performance and efficiency benefits of Toyota's hybrid electric technology," said Toyota in a release.

The European RAV4 Adventure looks like it gets some updates compared to the US car, including a dark grille, and a moved badge along with wider wheel arches and new 19-inch wheels in a matte finish. It comes with a matching matte accent along the bottom as well as a two-tone paint job. The body color is called Urban Khaki, while the roof, front pillars and spoiler are in Dynamic Grey. Toyota says it's a tribute to the classic FJ40 Land Cruiser. Other changes introduced for 2022, which were assuming will head over here, include the new LED headlights and fog lights, and a new wheel design.

Inside, the RAV4 Adventure gets unique upholstery with black synthetic leather with quilted back and seat sections. Special scuff plates are fitted and orange accents are added too. The cabin gets more convenience features like power seats, illuminated window controls and new USB-C ports.

Powering Europe's adventure ride is a 2.5-liter four with an electric motor on the rear axle combining to deliver 222 hp, which is three more hp than we get on our Hybrid (thought this could be due to Europe's slightly different measurements for horsepower) and 19 more than our Adventure trim. All-wheel drive is obviously standard and it can tow about 3,600 pounds. RAV4 production was paused in May due to a Covid outbreak, but now is back on track. At least until the computer chip shortage catches up with it.

We don't have pricing yet, but the American version falls in the middle of the lineup. It goes on sale in the first quarter of next year.
