A Norwegian designer has unveiled ambitious concept plans for a stunning superyacht powered by 64,500 sq ft of sail - and inspired by Viking longships.
The unique 528 ft-long design was the brainchild of Kurt Stand, a Norwegian currently based in Florida who says he's 'always' been impressed by the beauty of Viking ships.
'The superyacht 'Norway' is how I imagine a modern Viking ship would look like today with it's space age technology and patented Falcon rig masts made from carbon fiber,' Strand said.
The 'Norway' sailing yacht's massive, 64,500 sq ft sails could be deployed and furled away at the mere push of a button in just six minutes.

They are meant to mimic the powerful square sails seen on the traditional Viking vessels.
The handling system would potentially allow for precise maneuvering with the rotating rigs, meaning the vessel wouldn't need headwind to hoist or reef the sails.
The design has everything covered in a flexible solar cell foil which generates power stored in the battery bank that would be used for the onboard hydrogen production to then hypothetically power the boat.
That would mean that on a cloudy day, without any wind or sun, the yacht could still run on its hydrogen fuel cells.
In the ideal weather conditions for boating, the Norway would produce more power than it needs.
If the prospective owner wants to bask in the sunset, cocktail in hand, they can travel up the middle mast in the sky lift and enjoy the views 340ft above water level.

Up to 24 guests can be accommodated in the 12 luxury suits on board and they can have a tipple in the two-story high bar where stunning views can be seen from both sides of the yacht.
The ship includes a gym, spa, garage, movie theater and even a hospital, just in case.
At the fore deck, a helipad could allow guests to venture further afield.
If you needed any more methods of travel combined into one vessel, in the beach club, tender boats, off-road vehicles, jet skis and water toys are stored.
To top it all off, a submersible limousine boat is stored in the retractable aft deck.
'It can be easily launched and landed on the deck,' Strand said. 'This extravagant tender features a tracking system so it can drive up on a beach and can even travel underwater in 'sub mode'.'
The Norway would also hold about 40 staff members, but thanks to the sail handling system, 'significantly' less crew is needed than on a conventionally rigged yacht.
