Business and Community Expo

The 11th annual Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce Business and Community Expo is a free event on Sept. 23 at the Omar Shrine Convention Center.

The community is invited to explore local businesses and network with professionals at the 11th annual Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce Business and Community Expo.

The free event on Sept. 23 at the Omar Shrine Convention Center starts at 1 p.m. with an introduction from Mayor Will Haynie.

Throughout the event, guests can explore interactive exhibitor booths from local businesses that offer demonstrations, samples and food.

There will be 85 vendors, ranging from financial advisors to adventure companies that host team-building activities for businesses.

There will also be home improvement businesses such as roofing companies and gutter cleaning services. Health-focused businesses, including chiropractic, hearing aid companies and home care for elderly, will be represented. Charleston Animal Society is bringing some animals, as well.

“There’s a wide array business types that are going to be involved in the Expo this year,” said Ben Knight, the Expo chair for the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce.

The sponsors are not only local to Mount Pleasant; there will be representation from businesses in Charleston, Summerville and Pawleys Island. Knight said there are 20 percent more sponsors this year compared to previous Expos.

The food vendors include Shem Creek Crab House, Primo Hoagies, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Maple Street Biscuit Company.

There will be a mascot parade with characters from local universities, sports teams and businesses. The title sponsor of the Expo is Crews Subaru of Charleston.

From 5 to 6 p.m. guests can enjoy games, prizes, live music and a happy hour.

“It’s a great opportunity for people who are coming through to find out about businesses, their products and services they provide,” said Knight.

Knight said there is a lot of buzz and excitement around the Chamber’s 11th Expo, especially considering last year’s Expo was virtual due to the pandemic. Since the Expo has been a recurring event, Knight said the community anticipates the event. This year, Knight expects 1,200 people to come to the Expo throughout the five-hour event.

The Expo invites everyone from the community, not just business professionals, said Knight. He added that going to the Expo is beneficial for people who might have a need at home, whether it’s reviewing insurance options, finding a contractor for a project or discovering a new service in the community. “They could find the resolution right there,” said Knight.

Additionally, the Expo allows guests to get to know the leaders behind the businesses they frequent often.

“It’s a great time for people to network and be able to learn more about what’s available in and around Mount Pleasant,” said Knight.

The Expo gives business owners and entrepreneurs an opportunity to network with other professionals and engage with the community for business growth. Knight said the event will be both informative and fun for guests.
