The Dickson County father was accused of murdering his 5-year-old son Joe Clyde Daniels in April 2018. Though investigators say the community searched for little Joe Clyde to a degree they had never seen before, the child’s body has not been recovered.
The prosecution zeroed in on a confession from Daniels, which he later recanted, and the defense says was coerced. Authorities have stood by their interrogation tactics.
During the trial, the defense made arguments that the investigation ended after Daniels’ “false” confession and pointed to the Daniels’ struggle with mental health. After the guilty verdict, defense attorney Jake Lockert said, in hindsight, he would've presented more proof.
TBI agents have ensured the community they are still actively searching for little Joe Clyde.
