With an opportunity dangling in front of them against the team just ahead of them in the Wild Card standings, the Mets fell flat, getting shut out by Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals 7-0. Rich Hill did enough to keep the game close, but Yennsy Díaz imploded in the ninth inning, which turned the game into a laugher.

During last night’s game, first base umpire Junior Valentine was struck in the side of the face with an errant throw by Edmundo Sosa, but luckily was able to remain in the game after being seen by the trainer.

According to reporting from Andy Martino of SNY, Mets brass had a discussion yesterday about whether to raise the issue of the Yankees whistling from the dugout with MLB. The Yankees continue to adamantly insist that Wandy Peralta was whistling in an attempt to liven up the team and that there was no cheating or sign stealing going on. Regardless of whether they buy that story, the Mets seem to at least concede that the whistling was limited to Peralta and he was acting on his own. Ultimately, the Mets decided not to ask MLB to look into it.

Tomás Nido rejoined the Mets yesterday and will likely be activated from the injured list today.

Noah Syndergaard threw off a mound today and will be facing live batters in a couple of days, per Luis Rojas.

Meanwhile, Jacob deGrom threw at 90 feet yesterday and is scheduled to throw off a mound for the first time this week.

Proof of vaccination will now be required for everyone over 12 years of age to dine at indoor restaurants at Citi Field.

Edwin Díaz’s former pitching coach, Mel Stottlemyre Jr., thinks that pitching in New York may have had a negative impact on Díaz.

Howie Rose took to Twitter to thank the Mets community for their well wishes for his recovery.
