Lakers Rumors: Kenneth Faried to Hold Free-Agent Workout with LA

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly hosting free-agent forward Kenneth Faried for a workout this week, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic.

Faried, 31, is an eight-year NBA veteran who has spent time with the Denver Nuggets, Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets.

The 6'8" power forward played briefly for the Chinese Basketball Association's Zhejiang Lions during the 2019-20 season, and then after playing nowhere in 2020-21, he was part of the Portland Trail Blazers' 2021 summer-league roster.

After being selected 22nd overall in the 2011 NBA draft out of Morehead State, Faried quickly became an effective player for the Nuggets.

He averaged double figures in scoring in each of his first five seasons, including a career-high 13.7 points per game in 2013-14. He also posted a career-high 9.2 rebounds per game in 2012-13.

His role diminished late in his tenure with the Nuggets, as he played just 14.4 minutes per game and averaged a career-low 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in 2017-18.

Faried then split the 2018-19 season between the Nets and Rockets, appearing in 37 games and averaging 10.4 points and 6.8 rebounds.

Overall, Faried has played in 478 NBA regular-season games, averaging 11.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 54.6 percent from the field and 65.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Aside from keeping the core of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers have undergone a significant roster transformation this offseason in an effort to rebound from last season's first-round playoff exit.

Guard Russell Westbrook is L.A.'s biggest addition. The Lakers also brought in Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan and Carmelo Anthony in the frontcourt, along with shooters Kendrick Nunn, Wayne Ellington, Trevor Ariza, Malik Monk and Kent Bazemore.

One notable loss from the frontcourt is center Marc Gasol, who the Lakers traded to the Memphis Grizzlies last week before he was subsequently waived.

Gasol's departure opened up a spot, and Faried could be the guy to fill it.

Faried has little shooting range and doesn't provide much half-court scoring, but he's always been effective in transition and could be a lob threat for Westbrook and LeBron, in addition to being a prolific rebounder.
