The 2022 Toyota Tundra Is “Born From Invincible,” Debuts September 19

The teaser campaign for the 2022 Toyota Tundra is entering the home stretch as the highly-anticipated pickup will be unveiled on September 19 at 9 p.m.

Toyota didn’t reveal much other than the time and date, but it released a new video which says the truck is “born from invincible.” The clip also gives a glimpse at the Tundra’s bed and taillights.

Of course, the exterior design isn’t much of a surprise at this point as Toyota released a picture of the Tundra TRD Pro following a revealing leak in June. Since then, a handful of undisguised images have surfaced online.

While Toyota is keeping details under wraps, previous teasers have revealed the truck will have a reimagined suspension that turns over a “new leaf” and will “set a new bar for on- and off-road performance.” That is a reference to the company’s decision to trade rear leaf springs for coils.

Inside, we can expect a modern cabin with a digital instrument cluster and a massive infotainment system. The company has also teased a panoramic moonroof as well as perforated leather or SofTex seats with TRD Pro embroidery. They’ll be joined by new switchgear including controls for selecting between various driving modes, tow / haul mode and crawl mode.

The biggest question is the powertrain, but we already know the model will eschew its current 5.7-liter V8 for two all-new options including something called the i-Force Max. Little is known about the engines, but it’s believed the Tundra could have a new twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 similar to the one found in the Land Cruiser.  We can also expect a hybrid variant and we’ll have full details this weekend.
