A family from King County is suing a Grant County resort over the drowning death of a young girl this summer.

The wrongful death lawsuit against Cave B Inn and Winery in George claims 10-year-old Danika Ross was sucked into an irrigation pipe in a man-made lake that was unfit for recreation.

The suit says the system doesn't comply with state and federal laws, and claims the resort advertised a recreational lake with a dangerous pipe.

The lawsuit asks for compensation for the drowning that happened in late July, but doesn't call for any specific dollar amount.

The complaint was filed in late August in King County Superior Court by family members of Danika Ross.

It said the family had been vacationing on a near annual basis since 2016 at either the Sagecliffe Resort or the Cave B Inn.

The Cave B resort along with its owners and company officers were named as defendants in the suit.

The court document was obtained by KPQ News partner iFIBERONE.

It details events the plaintiff's claim took place surrounding the drowning death of Danika Ross.

"There were no warnings posted indicating a danger from the irrigation pipe in the lake.

There was no visible indicator of the mouth of the inlet pipe in the lake.

Danika Ross was swimming in the vicinity of the inlet pipe. The suction began to grab her.

She reached out in vain to her younger sister Ellie, attempting to grab onto Ellie’s life jacket. Her reach slipped away.

She was sucked into the 14-inch opening, her sister unable to save her.

She immediately was thrust down into a 90-degree bend in the pipe.

Her body was transported nearly 70 feet up the hill via the mechanical pump mechanism.

After she was sucked in, Danika Ross died."
