Toyota is set to release an all-new third-generation Tundra later this year as part of a flurry of updates. Here's what we know so far about the automaker's plans for the full-size truck segment.

The new Toyota Tundra will almost certainly be equipped with a V6

The 5.7-liter V8 will be phased out, and the Tundra, like the 300-Series Land Cruiser, is expected to use a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6.

Indeed, Toyota's most recent teaser image for the truck reveals its engine cover, revealing that the 2022 Tundra will be powered by a new "iForce Max" engine - and given that the engine cover has six "ribs" instead of the eight found on the current V8 model, we're almost certain this means the new truck will be V6-powered.

Retractable rear window

Another of Toyota's teasers revealed that the new Tundra will feature a full-length moonroof with a large opening - but, as Jalopnik pointed out, that same image also reveals that the 2022 Tundra will keep its fully retractable rear window.

Fans have praised the feature, which is similar to the 4Runner's power rear glass, for improving airflow and accessibility, and it looks like it will continue to do so for years to come.

The interior of the Tundra in 2022 will be much more modern

Another teaser for the Tundra has been released, this time showing off features from the all-new interior. For the TRD Pro trim, there are red perforated leather seats with subtle camo detailing.

There's also a textured shift knob, crawl control, and a wireless phone charging pad on the instrument cluster, which appears to be a mix of analog and digital gauges. The new Tundra should be a significant improvement over the previous model's dated interior.

The Tundra will be powered by a brand-new TNGA platform

The Tundra is expected to be one of the first vehicles to be built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, which will also underpin the Sequoia, Tacoma, and 4Runner. The new platform should allow the Tundra to be built with lighter-weight materials, improving ride quality and safety.
