Real Madrid came out of a chaotic 5-2 win against Celta Vigo which showed us just how good they can be going forward and how much work is still needed at the back. Unfortunately for them, they just have a couple of days to fix whatever is needed before they take on Inter Milan on Wednesday night in their first match of the UEFA Champions League this season.

Carlo Ancelotti knows that some of his players will probably need some rest soon but it’ll be difficult to grant it to them for this game as we could see rotations made for the next league game.

Goalkeeper

Unlucky to concede two goals over the weekend, Thibaut Courtois will be in goal once again on Wednesday night. He has cemented himself as an extremely reliable and match-winning goalkeeper and will be hoping to add more good moments to his list.

Defenders

Whenever he is fit, Dani Carvajal starts and the reason is quite simple: He adds a feeling of danger to the opposition whether he’s moving forward or at the back. His runs and his tendency to jump into any and every challenge is an asset to Real Madrid (and let’s be honest, a liability at times too).

In the center, we could be seeing a change with David Alaba expected to return to the lineup after missing the Celta Vigo game due to injury and he’ll be alongside Eder Militao who is expected to improve after some below-par performances this season. On the left, all signs point to yet another deserved start for youngster Miguel Gutierrez with Marcelo out injured again and Ferland Mendy only recently returning to full training.

Midfielders

He looked a little tired during the weekend but it’s very difficult to count him out of a game against opposition like Inter Milan and therefore all signs point to yet another start for Carlos Casemiro on the night as he’ll be behind Luka Modric and Federico Valverde. The worrying thing about having this trio is that all three players – particularly Casemiro and Valverde – will need to be rested soon and hopefully that does not end up having a negative effect on Wednesday.

However, Ancelotti has a few players to pick from that could do the job if needed throughout the match in Camavinga, Blanco, and Isco. The new signing performed well as a substitute on his debut and was able to get his name on the score sheet so it will be interesting to see if he gets a chance on Wednesday.

Forwards

Not much is expected to change in regards to the front three. Vinicius Junior was in exceptional form on Sunday as he has been throughout the season so far while Eden Hazard started the game very brightly in a more central role. They’ll both be needed at their best on Wednesday night.

Karim Benzema will be leading the front line, and he’ll be on a high after a hat-trick and an assist during the match against Celta Vigo. There is talk about Luka Jovic getting a chance but it’s doubtful against Inter yet we could see him in the starting eleven when Real Madrid takes on Valencia during the weekend.
