Advocacy group wants Stan Bowman suspended

After all the troubling allegations in recent months surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks have come to light, an American think tank that studies child sexual abuse and prevention is wanting the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USPOC) to suspend Stan Bowman from his general manager (GM) position with the U.S. Men's Olympic Hockey Team.

For those who aren't aware, allegations have been made that a former Blackhawks employee in Brad Aldrich sexually assaulted two former players, and that the team knew about the incidents but did nothing about them. Bowman was the team's GM at the time of the incidents, and remains with the team. He is also set to be the GM of the U.S. Men's Olympic Hockey Team at the 2022 Winter Olympics, something the USPOC is not happy with.

«I write to you today to request the suspension of Stan Bowman from his position as general manager of the U.S. Olympic men's hockey team and that an independent investigation into Bowman's behaviour in his role as general manager of hockey operations of the Blackhawks NHL team be conducted,» USPOC founder Marci Hamilton wrote.

These allegations surrounding Aldrich are extremely troubling, and, if found true, it is hard to imagine how Bowman would be not only able to keep his spot as GM of the Olympic team, but also his full time role with the Blackhawks. This story is not going away any time soon and will be one that will have plenty of follow ups throughout the 2021-22 season.
