Kim Kardashian nods to Kanye with face-obscuring mask at Met Gala 2021

Kanye West may not have joined Kim Kardashian on the 2021 Met Gala red carpet, but his influence on her attire was undeniable.

Rather than show her famous face, the rapper’s estranged wife continued her recent fetish-inspired fashion turn by donning a face-obscuring mask that even covered her eyes.

The 40-year-old’s all-black Balenciaga outfit, designed by the house’s creative director Demna Gvasalia, also included a tunic-length T-shirt, bodysuit, elbow-length gloves and “Pantaleggings” with built-in high heels.

It’s worth noting that West, 44, was the one who first introduced Kardashian to Gvasalia, who’s her date for the evening.

West has been spotted wearing a religious-themed face covering around Los Angeles lately, and donned a similar style at the Balenciaga Couture show in July, as well as at one of his “Donda” album listening events.

“Kim Kardashian dressed up as the Donda album cover,” quipped one Twitter user. “Kim Kardashian out here still promoting Donda,” added another.

However, West unfollowed Kardashian on Instagram today amid the duo’s ongoing divorce.

The Skims founder’s shocking Met getup isn’t her first brazen, bondage-inspired look of the week; the mother of four was spotted Saturday at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Central Park South wearing a black leather outfit by Vetements, which she accessorized with a zip-up gimp mask typically worn by submissives in the underground community.
