On September 22, a panel will convene at 2021 BioMEDevice Boston to discuss the role of biomaterials and biomimetics in developing key innovations. It’s no secret that biomaterials play a key role in applications such as tissue engineering and repair, customized implants, drug delivery, and surgical aids. While additive manufacturing enables free‐form manufacturing and mass customization, it is also an enabling technology for the clinical implementation of important precision biomaterials.

The panel will discuss ways they are using bioprinted materials, coupled with precision medicine, to tailor treatments that improve patient outcomes.

Topics include:

  • Types of materials used to make up biomaterials for various applications and where gaps fall that enable implantable materials

  • Understanding design challenges based on clinical need with microfluidics processes for biomaterials

  • Types of 3D printing methods such as extrusion and stereolithography providing materials value beyond customization and patient matching

  • Start-up use cases that are making a difference

Omar Ford, Managing Editor, MD+DI will moderate, and the panel will consist of:

Nicole Black, PhD, Vice President of Biomaterials & Innovation at Desktop Health; Todd Astor, MD, Founder, Biomembretics; Jennet Toyjanova, Director of Technical Innovation and Advanced Analytics, Ximedica.
