Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has revealed details of a shock attack on Zeedan Nazir, as he is beaten in the street by two mystery thugs.

Zeedan (Qasim Akhtar) will make his return to the cobbles this week after three years away to visit his grandmother Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) for her birthday, and he immediately comes to his family's rescue when his sister Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) falls victim to a scam, resulting in Speed Daal's bank account being cleared out.

Zeedan offers to lend the business £50,000 to tide it over and, despite Alya's doubts about where Zeedan could have got so much money, she eventually accepts the loan.

But next week, events will take another turn after Zeedan decides to get involved in another area of Alya's life. After seeing Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott), who Alya recently broke up with, Zeedan launches a verbal attack on him for cheating on his sister.

But Alya is infuriated by Zeedan's outburst, pointing out that he was nowhere to be seen when Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) was terrorising their gran and telling him to shove his money.

Later on, Yasmeen plans a family meal – but Zeedan doesn't make it there, as he is grabbed by a pair of thugs outside Speed Daal. Yasmeen's friends Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) and Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill) are horrified when they walk past and discover Zeedan slumped in the ginnel, battered and bleeding from his injuries.

After Zeedan is taken to hospital, Alya and Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) quiz him about his attackers. Zeedan claims that he has no idea who they were and Simon, having witnessed the row between Zeedan and Ryan earlier, wonders if Ryan could have been responsible for the incident.

When Zeedan gives a statement to police officer Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) about his attack, he suggests that Ryan might have been involved. When Ryan finds out about the accusation, he is furious and tears a strip off Zeedan for trying to frame him for the crime when he was working all afternoon.

Zeedan decides to come clean to Alya and Yasmeen and admits that he is in trouble. Yasmeen is quick to assert that she doesn't want Zeedan's money and is ashamed of his behaviour.

But Yasmeen eventually comes up with an ultimatum for Zeedan – she will accept his loan, but he must remain under her roof where she can keep an eye on him.

Will Zeedan agree?

Actress Sair Khan, who plays Alya, recently revealed that Zeedan is "trouble" and that Alya will have her suspicions about what he's been up to, but she added that his life has got "a bit out of control" and that he may not be entirely at fault.

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, September 20 and Wednesday, September 22 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
